NanoSky Ice Free

Snow and ice disappear before your eyes. And thanks to an agent that is much more environmentally friendly than salt.

Günther Gang comes from the South Tyrol and is Head of Development at NanoSky. He recently demonstrated that amazing discoveries are often down to chance. One bitterly cold winter’s day, he went out onto his patio to impregnate his Christmas tree with NanoSky Fire Protect – his son David was still quite small, and Christmas trees can burn quickly, especially if a little hand knocks over a candle. Then fate intervened: Günther Gang tripped and spilt NanoSky Fire Protect all over the patio. He managed to avoid falling to the ground by catching hold of the garden gate, which at that time of year should have been icy and cold to the touch. Strangely, the gate did not feel at all icy. In the places where NanoSky Fire Protect had been spilt on the metal, the gate was actually warm under his hand. NanoSky Fire Protect had displayed a second amazing property and had caused the ice and snow on the gate to melt extremely quickly.

Immediately the development process began. Together with Gerd Thöne a custom-made grit against snow and ice was developed – NanoSky Ice Free. It was tested on a small stretch of the Brenner Autobahn as the director at the time still remembered the success of our other nano product, NTS. The result was that where normal grit was scattered it required two minutes to melt the snow and ice and also introduced salt into ground. However, NanoSky Ice Free was able to do the same within 30 seconds and without any harmful effect on the environment. A blessing for airports, for example as well as for other critical transport interchanges – and above all a blessing for the environment. NanoSky Ice Free also fulfils the company’s philosophy: more economy and a lot of ecology.

Melting black ice in an environmentally friendly way

Every year a vast amount of saline grit is introduced into the environment. The consequences of this are well known – the ground becomes too salty and is rendered infertile. The great advantage of NanoSky Ice Free is that because it is made up of a natural salt solution (not sodium chloride) it literally becomes part of the natural environment once it has done its job.

The research and development of NanoSky Ice Free is essentially complete. Alongside further application tests, detailed documentation is currently being drawn up by the University of Vienna.
